Jamie Foxx & Luke Zimmerman honored by Global Down Syndrom Foundation's 2012

Global Down Syndrome Foundation 2012 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Raises $1.5 Million, Honors Jamie Foxx and Luke Zimmerman Quincy Jones, Natasha Bedingfield Star at Benefit for Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome Over $1.5 million was raised at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s 2012 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Sheraton Downtown Denver Hotel to benefit the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome. The gala was sold out, with 1,200 people in attendance, including football legends Pat and Annabel Bowlen, and John and Paige Elway. This year, the annual event honored Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” TV star Luke Zimmerman with the 2012 Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Awards. Quincy Jones, the organization’s International Spokesman, presented the award to Foxx, while Foxx’s sister, DeOndra Dixon, who is the foundation’s 2011 Ambassador, presented the award to Zimmerman. The Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show featured the foundation’s 2012 Ambassador, 6-year-old Samantha Marcia Stevens of Massachusetts, as well as 29 other guest models who happen to have Down syndrome. They strutted the runway with celebrity escorts, including actress Virginia Williams, Denver Nuggets star players Andre Iguodala and Danilo Gallinari, and Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey. Kim Christiansen of 9News was the evening’s emcee. British singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield closed out the evening with a concert that featured dancing help from the models during her chart-topping hit “Unwritten.” The event’s live auction raised $210,000, with such exclusive offerings as Hyde Park Jewelers’ Kentucky Derby VIP package, an Indianapolis 500 experience with Buzz Calkins, and a dinner with Denver Broncos icons Pat and Annabel Bowlen, and John and Paige Elway. The money raised at the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show provides crucial funding for research, medical care, education and advocacy benefiting people with Down syndrome. Because Down syndrome is the least-funded genetic condition by the National Institutes of Health, the research and care provided by the Linda Crnic Institute at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, and the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado rely heavily on private funding. The Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show is the single largest annual fundraiser benefiting people with Down syndrome. More information about this event and the Global Down Syndrome Foundation is available at www.globaldownsyndrome.org.

Andre 3000 Starring Jimi Hendrix

Considering how long this has been in development, and the number of similar projects that have fallen by the wayside including a mooted Paul Greengrass directed biopic, and a fictional road trip style movie, we figured the Andre 3000 starring Jimi Hendrix movie was not going to happen. Hell, even as far back as 2008 the actor/rapper himself said, "The funny thing with the biopics [is their uncertainty], I mean, it’s the same thing with ‘Hendrix.’ It’s kinda like, until you are on set doing it you can’t say what’s going on, because everybody wants to do the movie, but there are so many things that go into a biopic.” Well, it looks like the movie is actually going ahead. Titled "All Is By My Side," the film is gearing up start lensing in three weeks in Ireland, with a six week production schedule mapped out. John Ridley, the writer behind "Three Kings," "U-Turn" and the forthcoming "Twelve Years A Slave" has penned the script and will be directing as well, making his sophomore feature effort following 1997's "Cold Around The Heart." The film will essentially cover Hendrix's breakthrough period from 1966 to 1967, when he was discovered in a New York club by Linda Keith, a model and girlfriend of Keith Richards at the time, who introduced him to The Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham and producer Seymour Stein (who both declined to work with him), and eventually to manager/producer Chas Chandler who helped launch his career. He went to London, recorded Are You Experienced? and the rest, as they say, is history. No word yet on the rest of the cast, but last summer, Hayley Atwell revealed she was eyeing a role but nothing has been heard since. The big question here is if the film will have rights to the songs, licensing of which tends to be expensive and difficult to come by. But we presume if cameras are set to be rolling, some kind of approval on the film has come down from the musicians's estate, Experience Hendrix. Either way, we're curious as hell to see how all this winds up turning out. Are You Experienced? is a fairly defining moment in rock 'n roll history, and Hendrix is one of the titans, so let's hope it gets the treatment it deserves

Sony eyes 'Boy Nobody' franchise for Jaden Smith

Young adult novel revolves around teenage assassin By Jeff Sneider
Sony Pictures is in early talks to acquire pic rights to Allen Zadoff's novel "Boy Nobody," with plans to develop it as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith. Sony had no comment. Sources tell Variety that the studio beat out 20th Century Fox for the property and has begun negotiations, although they caution that a deal has not yet closed. "Boy Nobody" is the first in a planned young adult trilogy about a brainwashed teenage assassin who starts to regain his emotions. Little, Brown will publish the novel next spring. The book's main character is reminiscent of a teenage Jason Bourne, with Zadoff describing the young protag as a "young soldier trained not to feel; who could function in every situation without fear, sympathy or anger; who could assassinate strangers and then walk away emotionally unscathed." Stuart Krichevsky negotiated the book deal and CAA shopped the film rights to Zadoff's tome, which grew out of the author coping with the death of his mother in 2010. Title attracted plenty of interest when it was recently shopped at the Bologna Children's Book Fair. Zadoff's most recent book is "My Life, the Theater, and Other Tragedies." Smith, who previously starred in Sony's "The Karate Kid" reboot" and "The Pursuit of Happyness," as well as 20th Century Fox's remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still." He's now filming M. Night Shyamalan's Sony pic "After Earth" with his father, Will Smith. Smith is repped by WME.

MAMA, I WANT TO SING! Ciara, Patti LaBelle, Lynn Whitfield & Hill Harper Hit All the Right Notes on DVD February 14

ON THE ROAD TO SUPERSTARDOM, A YOUNG STARLET MUST FIND HER WAY HOME

A story about faith, family, and the power of love, MAMA, I WANT TO SING smashes onto DVD February 14 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Adapted from the hit off-Broadway musical, MAMA, I WANT TO SING brings down the house with electrifying performances by R&B and gospel music legends.

Talented but naive, Amara Winter (multi-platinum selling artist Ciara) is a young gospel singer who dreams of pop stardom. Raised in a tight-knit community, Amara is discovered by agents who quickly propel her to the top with recording sessions and television appearances. Soured by the sudden media attention, Amara's preacher mother (Emmy Award®-winner Lynn Whitfield, Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story) implores her to stay grounded. Amara faithfully pursues her music career even in the face of creating a strained relationship with her mother, and turns to her father (Grammy Award®-winner Marvin Winans, I Can Do Bad All By Myself) and Sister Carrie (Grammy Award®-winner Patti LaBelle, "A Different World") for support. On her way to the limelight, Amara must learn to navigate the often-treacherous world of celebrity and find a way to remain true to herself and to her family.
